Split Stitch

The Split Stitch step-by-step

1. Bring your needle up at your starting point and pull your thread through until your knot catches on the back.

2. Make a straight stitch.

3. Bring your needle up again just ahead of your straight stitch.

4. Put your needle through your first stitch thus splitting the stitch and pull your thread through to the back.

5. Bring your needle up ahead of the last stitch you made and continue on in this fashion until your have covered the section you are split stitching on.
Note: In all the embroidery books I have it says to come up from the back and split your stitch. I find it is too time consuming trying to get my needle in the right place coming blindly from the back. Splitting the stitch from the front is much faster and gives the same look.
